My kid had a cold. He may still have a cold, but his nose isn’t super runny like it was a couple of days ago. The problem is he still has a killer cough. All that mucus that was previously going out of his nose seems to be getting caught up in his throat. We’ve all been there. Not the end of the world. I would rather him have this cough than a whole list of potential health issues. Unfortunately for him, and most kids, he can’t really grasp the concept of taking one big cough and spitting out the mucus. So he coughs and coughs and coughs and it is a toss-up if he will dislodge some mucus and then swallow it back down, or he coughs so much it triggers his gag reflex and he pukes. He has coughed to the point of throwing up at least once every day this week.

It isn’t the end of the world. He is still jovial and can play around at home. It has completely ruined our sleep though. He will wake up multiple times at night having to cough, which then wakes up me and my wife. I am almost at the point of exhaustion.

I’m flabbergasted at how long this has lasted. I guess I never take note of how long I have ever had a cold/cough. I know at the beginning of 2021 he and I were sick more than we were healthy with cold after cold. Not sure how my wife didn’t get wiped out as well. I’m hoping he and I don’t repeat the streak of colds in 2022. He isn’t off to a great start, but I’ve stayed healthy despite how poor of sleep I’ve gotten.

We just have to tough it out and keep giving him some medicine and try to get as much rest as possible.
